چکیده

In this paper, a novel location management scheme, distributed mobile tracking (DMT), is proposed for routing improvement in Cellular IP networks. A mobile-tracking tree (MT-Tree) for each active mobile host is established by tracking the movement of the host in DMT. Two mechanisms, pruning process and growing process, are also proposed to improve DMT. Packet transmissions can follow the route on the MT-Tree instead of using the gateway route. Simulation results have shown that DMT has the advantages of shorter routing paths as well as load balance for wired links over the original gateway-based location management scheme. Moreover, three multicast protocols for Cellular IP are proposed: GBMP, GBMP-RO, and MTMP. In GBMP, the gateway is responsible for group management as well as multicast transmission. Multicast packets received by the base station are first forwarded to the gateway. The gateway then forwards the packets to each member of the group by multiple unicasting. GBMP-RO, a modified version of GBMP, adopts the idea of source routing for multicast transmissions. MTMP is mainly based on the MT-Tree routing scheme. However, if not all group members can be covered by MT-Tree routing, MTMP will instead adopt GBMP-RO for multicast transmission. Simulation results demonstrate that MTMP has the advantages over GBMP and GBMPRO in terms of load balance in the Cellular IP network. 2003 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Design and evaluation of two scalable protocols for location management of mobile nodes in location based routing protocols in mobile Ad Hoc Networks

Heretofore several position-based routing protocols have been developed for mobile ad hoc networks. Many of these protocols assume that a location service is available which provides location information on the nodes in the network. Our solutions decrease location update without loss of query success rate or throughput and even increase those.Simulation results show that our methods are effectiv...

A Novel Location Management Scheme and Routing Protocol for Group Communications in Cellular IP Networks

In this paper, a novel location management scheme called Distributed Group Tracking (DGT) for group communications in Cellular IP networks is proposed. In DGT, Base stations track each member of a group and build a share multicast routing tree called DGT-Tree for the group in a distributed manner. Transmission of multicast packets among group members is along the group’s DGT-Tree. Simulation st...

Telecommunication Networks Group Design , Implementation and Performance of Multicast - Based Paging for IP Mobility

Originally, paging has been used in cellular networks to alert a mobile station of an incoming call within a paging area comprised of several cells. Today’s most popular usage of paging is the exchange of short messages. With growing importance of all-IP mobile networks it is expected that an IP paging service will prevail. This report studies the usage of paging in IP-based networks to search ...

Location Tracking in IP-based Mobile Networks

This paper presents a mobility tracking mechanism for IP-based networks. The Motivation behind proposed mechanism is that most of the mobile hosts tend to move locally within a limited geographical area. We have observed that a recently proposed mobility management scheme, called Dynamic hierarchical Mobile IP (DHMIP) performs better than MIP in terms of saving in signaling cost. But, it is not...
